"The hotel stay was just what I needed following surgery; especially, given that I had drainage tubes, which were really quite painful. It was great to have the peace and quiet as well as the extra bed. My husband played nursing assistant and was able to sleep nearby without bumping me. Thank you all so much for the good work that you do. I'm hopeful that other young women will learn of your program and be able to benefit from it as we did."
Your Donation will directly assist mothers in treatment for breast cancer. Recovery grants will help them heal and live their lives to the fullest.
"Everything with the grant worked out perfectly and was a huge blessing. Thank you Anne especially for all your calls and personal attention, it made me not feel so alone." -Kate
Genevieve Louise Sounia
"Thank you so much for the love and support. You've helped me find hope in a dark hour."
During her two year struggle with breast cancer, Genevieve had to search to find the resources she needed to extend her life and take care of her young family.
She drew people to her with her courage, spirit, and grace, and connected them to each other as they supported her during her quest to live her life to the fullest. She was encouraged and strengthened by their efforts, and gave back by gently, yet passionately, encouraging them to get involved in the life enriching and life extending principles she believed in.
She supported others by passing on what she learned and encouraged them through friendships, mentoring, and starting a support group for young cancer patients.
After her death, Genevieve's network of family and friends decided to continue her fight against breast cancer by helping other young women in her name and to support and promote her passions and causes. We strive to make the cancer journey easier to navigate, offer encouragement, and provide an arm to lean on.
Genevieve's values became the heart of our mission's activities.
A diagnosis of breast cancer can be devastating to any woman, but is most unexpected and unusually challenging to young women under the age of 40, especially those with families. Their medical, social, financial, and emotional needs are different from their older sisters and frequently not met by today's medical establishment.
Genevieve's Helping Hands Charity is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to helping young women with breast cancer live their lives to the fullest. We offer assistance to find financial, social, peer, caregiver and nutritional support.
Recovery Grants are the heart of our mission. We award stay grants to young mothers that are designed to extend and enhance their recovery from any type of breast cancer treatment, including before, during, and after treatment, including reconstruction.
Stage IV moms are awarded the same Grant benefits and are called Respite Grants, which are intended to give that Mom the chance to rest and have a get-away from cancer.
